Morpho at rest

Morpho at rest

Photographed this Morpho butterfly in Panama. Very hard to photograph like this because this butterfly never wants to sit still. Luckily, it was a rainy day and it took shelter under some leaves. The upper sides of the wings are a brilliant blue, and when flying through the jungle it looks like small bursts of neon as it opens and closes its wings.

Heliconius Emerging from Chrysalis

This is one of many butterflies that I hatched from an egg, gathered an unbelievable amount of passionflower for the caterpillar to eat, then waited, not so patiently, for the butterfly to emerge. This was photographed in my living room. I really like this picture; some people ask me what kind of flower it is when they first see it.
